What is BHEF?
The Beverly Hills Education Foundation funds a world class education in each of the five Beverly Hills public schools with financial support beyond what limited public sources provide. BHEF bridges the community, civic leaders and businesses with our schools to assure academic, athletic and artistic excellence. The Beverly Hills Education Foundation was established as a 501 © (3) non-profit corporation in 1978 by concerned parents and community leaders. The first of its kind, BHEF has become a national model for most school districts throughout the United States which have patterned their fund-raising programs after the Foundation. BHEF works diligently so that our children can have the kind of quality programming and exceptional teachers that have been the hallmark of a Beverly Hills public school education.
Why should I support BHEF in addition to my child's school directly?
ONLY BHEF:
- has an endowment to assure continual giving
- sells the naming opportunities for all of the schools
- can pay for teachers and staff in addition to programs and materials
- provides parity in the school district by donating funds to all of our schools
- is uniquely positioned to bridge our neighborhood schools with businesses and civic leaders because of a community-wide commitment
If I don't have children in the schools, why should I care about BHEF?
The BHEF supports our public schools which, along with our outstanding public services, keeps our property values high and brings business and positive attention to our community. It's a simple equation... Great reputation + great schools + great police + great fire = high property values.
Does the money raised by the BHEF go to all the schools?
YES. BHEF formed as a means to offset the passage of Proposition 13, which shifted school funding from local to state control. Because of the stark differences in the fund-raising capabilities of each Beverly Hills school, the BHEF raises funds for all the schools and distributes them equitably. All five of our schools are currently designated Distinguished Schools by the state.
How much does BHEF give to the schools?
BHEF provides over one million dollars of crucial funding each year to our schools.
How does BHEF raise money?
BHEF has several fundraising opportunities throughout the year including our School Spirit Calendar Book, the apple Harvest Faire, the Apple Ball, the Elementary Summer Enrichment & Arts Academy, Tributes, Matching Gift Programs, and Planned Giving.
Does BHEF target funds to specific programs?
YES. BHEF donates a sustained portion of funds to the budget of the School District to be used for the hiring of teachers, staff and maintaining small classroom size. In addition, BHEF donates to arts education, technology, intramural sports at the four elementary schools, KBEV, the libraries, extra-curricular enrichment programs, counselors, and the Ambassador Parent Program. Targeted giving varies each year based on the needs and goals of our schools.
Are there naming opportunities?
YES. BHEF offers a multitude of naming opportunities at all of the schools to help serve specific programs and build our endowment fund. This is a unique opportunity to leave a legacy for the children of tomorrow and ensure that the dream of an excellent public school education will be realized for generation to come.
Does BHEF have a tribute program?
YES. Apple Tribute cards are a very thoughtful way to show you are remembering a loved one, thanking a teacher or honoring a special occasion while showing your support for our schools.
Does BHEF have an Endowment?
YES. The BHEF Endowment is over $3,000,000 and growing.
Who runs BHEF?
BHEF is guided by a Board of Directors comprised of parents, community members and PTA presidents who are deeply committed to preserving the quality of our public schools. BHEF's leadership draws upon the energies and aspirations of its individual members while responding to the expressed needs of the schools and the community.
How can I get involved in BHEF?
There are so many ways to get involved! BHEF is dependent upon those who give their time and money generously. We hope that you, your family or business will join us this year by attending our many events, volunteering or helping us to cultivate new fund-raisers and relationships. You do not need to be on our Board of Directors to join a working committee for the BHEF.
We invite you to join us as a Founding Family or Community Member and hope you will join our efforts to provide our children what they deserve, an excellent education.
